Week 321 Wrap Up

Let's see... jerseys, face paint, giant foam fingers, really loud air horns, those weird helmets that hold drinks... Seems like that's everything needed to watch the big buckball game as a proper fan. At least, that's what Lyra says. Personally, I think this amount of stuff is only carried around by the most fanatical of fans, with the average fan bringing only some of these things, if anything at all.

But for those of you who are not attending the game, our newest gallery exhibit will be open shortly. And it will be full of fans and fanatics as well, partially because that is the theme of this week's exhibit. So fans on the walls being stared at by fans in the halls. And for those who wish to join in on the staring, the Gallery is now open!

Hmm. Perhaps I should bring some earplugs too, because those really loud air horns truly are really loud.

Week 320 Wrap Up

As the old saying goes, "If your family tree doesn't fork, you're probably a Redneck." Wait, no. That's not an old saying, it's just some comedian's joke. And one that you should not tell around the Hooffields or the McColts. Not because they'd be insulted, mind you, but because those two families have been known to argue about which family laughs harder at it. Those two families may not be feuding anymore, but there's still a fair bit of competitiveness between them.

But families aren't just about jokes and feuds. They're also about love and support and arguing with sibling and sitting in the corner when you've done something bad. But mostly love and support. But enough rambling, it's time to check out this week's exhibit!

Week 319 Wrap Up

Roses are red, violets are purple.
Sugar is sweet, and so is maple surple.

Wait, "maple surple"? Is that even a word? Sounds like something a little animated maniac would say.

But I digress. I was reading this flower poem because this week is all about those who grow the flowers: gardeners! And because I couldn't find a gardener poem on short notice. I even asked those three mares that everypony calls The Flower Fillies, but they were busy dealing with a massive caterpillar infestation at the time. And by 'dealing with', I mean shouting 'The Horror' repeatedly.

But I digress. Again. The time has come to open up the Gallery, so I shall say no more for this evening. Enjoy!

Week 318 Wrap Up

Hmm. Something strange is going on this week. There's an odd wind blowing from the Everfree, bringing with it that prickly sensation of goosbumps all down your limbs. But hey, this is Ponyville, Equestria's official Weirdness Magnet. Such an odd wind is pretty common around here.

But still, this week has been weirder than usual, even for Ponyville. As the strangeness, oddities, and weirdness of this world are the theme of this week's Gallery, and that has brought all manner of odd occurrences with it. But that is a story for another day, for it is time to officially open the Gallery for everypony's perusal.

Week 317 Wrap Up

Hey, watch this! I'm gonna do a double loop-de-loop into a blazing backflip, then shift into a meteor dive from which I will land on top of this tiny crystal goblet without so much as chipping it. And I will do it all without wings! How am I going to pull this off, you might ask? Well...

I'm not. It's extremely difficult to pull off such aerial acrobatics when one does have wings. For the wingless, like myself, it's basically impossible. But I did get your attention, didn't I. And that is the point of showboating: to get as much attention as possible. But at least I'm not doing this merely to stroke my own ego, as is often the case with showboaters. Rather, I'm doing this to garner attention for this week's Gallery. For within these hallowed halls reside an exhibit showcasing multiple other forms of showboating, as that is indeed the theme for this week. So allow me to show you to the entrance, so that you may experience this grand spectacle.

Week 316 Wrap Up

Hello, all you bleep-ing ponies out there! It's such a lovely bleep-ing day today, am I right? The bleep-ing sun is shining, there's none of that fluffy white bleep blocking the sunlight with their bleep-ing rain, and all the pony bleep-es and bleep-s are out and about, enjoying this bleep fine weather!

Oh, what was that? "Why am I swearing so much?" Oh, well this week's theme was A Cursing Pony, and I'm just... wait what? "Cursed Pony"?

Err, oops. Seems I was actually showing off the Misguided Pony part of the theme. Without actually intending to. That would explain all the dirty looks. So, umm... how about you all just go ahead and check out our gallery while I, err... demonstrate the classic Brave Sir Robin strategy. Gottagobye!

Week 315 Wrap Up

Heisting is a fine art. Any fool can run into a business guns-blazing and grab whatever's in the register, but that'll just result in the police running in after you with their own weapons at the ready. Nopony likes a murderer, and the authorities are relentless in the pursuit of such killers. As such, a true heister does things nice and quiet. First, get as much info as you can. Case the joint, if possible. Figure out where the valuables are kept, and what they're worth. Determine the patrol routes of any guards, and the presence of other security measures. We heisters aren't movie stars; getting caught on camera is a really bad thing. Then, once you have your plan all laid out, it's time to act. Sneak in, avoid security, grab the best stuff, and get back out with none the wiser!

And one last piece of advice for you all, one that you'll likely not want to hear. Should the police succeed in catching up to you, it is time to surrender. Cops are well armed, well trained, and work in teams. Indeed, for each cop you see, there's another hidden nearby; on a rooftop, behind a nearby vehicle, or coming in through the back of the building. 'Tis true that no heister likes getting caught, but just remember: It's far easier to escape a jail than to escape a grave.

But enough of the doom and gloom stuff. Instead, let's see some true heisters in action. The evidence is found below. Just don't tell anypony with a badge what you saw here.

Week 314 Wrap Up

Big money, no Whammies, big money, no Whammies... Stop!

Aw dangit, I got a Whammy. That's the problem with gambling: It's never a sure thing. It's just a roll of the dice; sometimes proverbially, sometimes literally. Fortunately, this isn't the only way to earn an income. One can simply get a job, for instance. And while working for a living may not have that massive potential payoff of a lucky gambling streak, it does provide income much more consistently.

These and other ways of gaining an income have been the theme of this week, and it's time to see what everyone has come up with along these lines. Check them out below:

You put your left smash in, you put your left smash out,
You put your left smash in, then you shake it all about.
You tilt you head confusedly 'cause these lyrics make no sense,
That's what it's all about!

Yeah, that attempted variation of a certain song didn't really work. Well, as they say, "When at first you don't succeed, smash, smash again!" Or something like that; I think the 'they' in this case would be the yaks. They certainly do like their smashing. And so did our artists this week. So come on in and take a look at our gallery tonight. It's simply smashing!

Week 312 Wrap Up

Aaah!! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! It's already hitting the clouds and sending bits of them tumbling to the ground! That's what all these white things are; bits of clouds broken up by the falling sky! We all gotta get underground fast! Quick, into whatever storm cellar, bunker, cavern, or underground vault you can find! Otherwise, we'll all be crushed when the sky hits the ground! We gotta hurry, this stuff is already starting to coat the ground like, umm... like snow. It's just snowing, isn't it.

Okay, maybe taking that bet about drinking a dozen double espressos wasn't such a good idea, even if I did get a dozen bits out of it. I've been freaking out about things all day, and it only seems to be getting worse. I'd better just open up the Gallery and be done with it before my brain goes off-kilter again.

Hey, wait a minute. Why is it snowing? This isn't Horstralia, for Celestia's sake; it's nearly the start of Summer here! Did the pegasi make a scheduling error? Could there be some issue with the clouds, causing them to snow out of season? Like something pushing on them from above, perhaps... oh no, it is happening after all! The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

Week 311 Wrap Up

To be practical, or not to be practical. That is the question! It is a question that many fashion designers have often struggled with; how much weight should function carry relative to form? Should one design a supremely flashy outfit that would be worn only rarely due to how awkward it is to move around in, or go with something easier to wear but potentially less flashy? Or perhaps something in between, as one is not limited to either extreme here.

And it's not just clothiers that need to make such decisions. For example, should a hungry pony take the time necessary to prepare a three course meal, or go with a simple sandwich that will end satisfy their hunger quickly? Should the blog writer create a short novel's worth of words or stick with something that won't take several hours to read?

In my case, I think the latter is the better option. So, without further ado, I shall open up the Gallery for you all. In the words of Photo Finish: "We go!"

Week 310 Wrap Up

To ship or not to ship, that is the question! And in this fandom, the answer is usually 'to ship'. And that's really not surprising, given the creative nature of this fandom, and the role of the internet in the average fan's life. After all, a fan-made item purchased over the 'net cannot typically be picked up in person given the global nature of the fandom, and must instead be sent via snailmail.

Oh, you thought I was talking about the other type of shipping? Well, that does apply here to, I must admit. But whatever form of shipping you may have had in mind, you'll likely find examples of it in the Gallery this week. So feel free to go take a look now, and don't worry, there's no fees involved with the shipping here.

Week 309 Wrap Up

Well, it's that time again. I don't want to overdo it with the speeches tonight, so I'm just gonna open up the Gallery right here and now. Enjoy!

Hmm. Actually, I think that's going to far in the other direction; one can overdo it on keeping things short too. Balance is not always an easy thing to find, but it is a good thing to strive fore nonetheless.

At any rate, now would be the right time to bring this to a close, I think. So feel free to wander the Gallery, and take a gander at all the ponies who are overdoing it in some act or another. Just don't overdo the gandering; you don't want to strain your eyes, after all.

Week 308 Wrap Up

Growing older is a normal part of life, and a mandatory one at that. Well, effectively mandatory. While it is technically true that powerful magic can reverse the aging process, it is rare indeed for a pony to be able to handle such powers. As such, aging remains inevitable for all but a very rare few.

However, though growing old may be mandatory, growing up is optional! But even as many ponies hold on to elements of their foalhood, their ever-growing collection of experiences will add up to a steady growth of wisdom and maturity. So let's open up the Gallery this evening, and see the newest creations of those who continue to grow as artists!

Week 307 Wrap Up

Ponyville is a dangerous place. Giant star bears, rampaging dragons, and demonic centaurs can all cause considerable damage to the town's infrastructure. Not to mention the various powerful unicorns living here that don't always have control over their magic. Needless to say the local construction crews have their hooves full keeping the town from steadily transforming into a field of collapsed buildings, and they've become quite the experts in their field.

But even the most experienced of builders doesn't know everything there is to know about construction, so you gotta make sure you get the right ponies for the job you need done. And having such experts working on your project will make the process much easier, and greatly increase the chances of success!

In that spirit, tonight's gallery is focused on these veteran workers. For such expertise deserves to be celebrated!

Week 306 Wrap Up

Is... Is it over? Is it safe to come out now? Ah, good, good! A pair of foalish ponies had led a hydra into the center of town for some reason. It apparently was those same two who led that giant bear into Ponyville a few years ago; evidently somepony told them about kites and... somehow... that led them to believe that they should lead things into Ponyville. Thankfully, Twilight and her friends were able to handle this problem. Indeed, it's a good thing those mares are here to take care of such situations, given how dangerous it has been over the past several years.

And thankfully the hydra didn't trample the Gallery. Many ponies have been talking about kites as of late, and the local artists have been following suit with their creations. So in honor of kites that don't involve gigantic monsters, I now open the Gallery to you all!

Passion! It drives many a pony to do the things they do. Painters, musicians, writers, and other artistic types often have a lot of passion for their work, and use that to drive their creativity. And of course, such passion isn't limited to artistic pursuits. Many craftsponies are also passionate about their jobs, producing items of high quality for discerning buyers.

And that is what we are celebrating in this week's gallery, passionate ponies and the high emotions passion can bring. So without further ado, allow me to open up the gallery for you!

"Try or try not; there is no do." That's what my mentor always said... I think. Something like that, at least.

But yes, Mentors and their Students are the theme for this week. It's been a celebration of what we can teach to, and learn from, each other. After all, learning isn't limited to formal school settings. Friends often learn from each other, both through direct training and simply through teaching by example.

And should you take the role of mentor yourself, your student will hopefully not develop a fascination with teacups.

Week 303 Wrap Up

Alright, the Dark Lord's forces are arraying themselves upon the northern hills. The time has come to meet their advance, and take the battle to them! Apple Splitter, collect your archers and lead them to the eastern hills. That will give you a good view of the battleground, and allow your bow-wielding forces to fire their arrows with near-impunity. Sir Iron Shield, your heavy soldiers will line up at the base of those same hills. The Dark Lord will undoubtedly recognize the danger that archers on the high ground pose to his forces, and will seek to uproot them as quickly as possible. It'll be your job to prevent that from happening.

As for you, Lord Pommel, your forces will assemble in the central field and charge the Dark Lord's forces. Now, make sure you wait for the right moment! You need to wait for the enemy to come down off the northern hills first; otherwise you'll be charging uphill towards them. And I'm sure you remember what happened when General Pickett Fence did that in the Hooffield-McColt skirmish of '58. That's an example of strategy that you definitely don't want to follow! And finally, Iron Wind, you'll hold back at first, then charge into the enemy's flanks once they're engaged with Lord Pommel and Sir Iron Shield. The full force of your pegasus knights slamming into their side should be enough to break their resolve and win the day for us.

For Equestria!

Tonight, for your listening pleasure, I shall recite some poetry.

I think that I shall never see,
A poem as lovely as a...
wait, is this going to be yet another 'Fluttershy is a tree' thing? *Ahem* Let's try something else.

Rock. You're a rock. Grey... Hmm. I'd better go with something else; this is a relatively new poem, and the poet might sue me over it. Here, let's try this one.

There once was a mare from Nanbucket, whoooo-okay, moving on!

Bah, this isn't working. I think I'll stick to my usual intros, and let the pictures in the Gallery bring the entertainment. So, without further ado:

Now towards the gall'ry turning, all my soul within me burning,
To reveal the art display that we set up the night before.

Again I extend my arm to push aside the great doors.
